The Half Cup Full Half Cup Empty Fallacy

Explore how the Half Cup Full, Half Cup Empty fallacy leads to flawed assumptions and may be silently sabotaging your business.

I often heard this phrase in my adolescent years this idea of people who are positive view the cup as half full and people who are negative view the cup half empty.

Here are the examples why that ISN’T true

  1. Positivity Mindset - The cup is half empty… let’s put more in the cup
  2. Realistic Mindset - The cup is half empty… let’s find out how we can manage with what we have
  3. Giver Mindset - The cup is half empty… because half was shared with another
  4. Humble Mindset - The cup is half empty… because more is still to be earned
  5. Rebel Mindset - The cup is half empty… not to categorize in a particular group or set of beliefs

I could keep going but I think you get the idea. The point is you should challenge your assumptions and the beliefs you have held on to forever.

My friend you to tell me have “strong beliefs loosely held” where you have the confidence in what you belief and where you are going but are also communicative and reflective along the way if anyone comes along has a different idea or belief.

In business question your assumptions. Don’t believe you can reach your goals? Who told you that? Are they qualified to be telling you their opinion (your doubt or other people)? Look to surround yourself with people in the field that actually have the ethos (credibility and authority) to give you their opinion.

Just some recent thoughts. I’ll end this blog post for now here.

No fluff. Just real projects, real value, and the path from code to cash — one useful build at a time.
